Homecoming week was fun this year! We have been working on routines and procedures as well as assessing what students already know! They have taken the Dibels assessment and STAR assessments. I have also begun assessing them using the DRA - a reading assessment. If you'd like to know your child's scores - please feel free to email me, text, or call! We also started writing personal narratives (stories that are about themselves) and focusing on planning a story, narrowing the topic, and making sure the story has a beginning , middle and end. In reading, we've begun to discuss story elements (setting, characters, and events) and are focusing on trying to identify these elements in the stories that we read. We are going to begin our Science unit on weather next week and have begun learning about Native Americans of Michigan. The students have been learning different methods for multiplication in math. So far, we have learned to do repeat addition, draw equal groups pictures, and draw arrays. They also learned about the Commutative Property of Multiplication! Students are doing really well with it!!! I will introduce division as the inverse operation of multiplication next week! Have a great weekend!!!
I am really looking forward to teaching 3rd grade this school year! I have taught 3rd grade a total of four years now! I am also very much looking forward to being in the same classroom! In my 11 years of classroom teaching, I have changed classrooms every year! This will be the first time that I get to stay put in the same classroom for two years in a row! Because of this, I have been able to begin working on and tweaking curriculum calendars, standards documents, and curricular units for next year already! We are beginning the year with Multiplication! No worries though, we take it slowly and work on the easy facts first! The kids will have fun learning their facts in multiple ways throughout the first weeks of school. In addition to multiplication facts, students will all be assigned an Xtramath.org account where they will log in each day to complete fact fluency practice. You can create a parent login as well so that you can follow their practice from home! Please let me know if you have any questions about this and I will be happy to help you!
We have had an awesome Instrument Unit!!! Students have enjoyed learning about all four instrument families and some of the unique instruments in each family! Students were excited to be able to play instruments from each family and even learned about the Didgeridoo! I love seeing the light in their eyes when they try something new and find out that they are good at it!!
I am super excited to start my 13th year as an educator! I am looking forward to the new students, teachers, and families that I will get to meet here in Swartz Creek! I am proud to be a Dragon!!! Dragon Pride!!!!
